Mooncake Blessings

Our cell group went out to our respective block of flats to bless the residents with boxes of yummy mooncakes. We will also invite them to the Mid-Autumn Festival event at church on Sat 29th Sept @ 7:30pm. We pray that many lives and residents will be blessed and come to know our Lord Jesus as we bring these blessings to them.

Annie & I had a fantastic encounter on Monday 24th Sep night. Read about it here: http://daddyto3.wordpress.com/2007/09/25/lsbc-10th-anniversary-mid-autumn-festival/

    Hi All,

We are very encouraged by your report. Praise the Lord!

Yes, the Lord wants us to be productive and effective in reaching out. Great, though you are quite new and God has granted you all such a wonderful experience and breakthru.
Cerina and i did not have the same experience as the block we are working on is relatively new. Nevertheless, with your sharing, we are refreahed and motivated to do CP again and again. Never say die, we will stand up and try until we can have the same experience like yours.

On those nights, there were many residents were not in, even with those on the first week when we made the second attempt. However, with the help of Jonathan, Joanne’s son, we completed another whole block by ourselves. Do not be alarmed, it has only 16 units and we managed to bless 10 households. In the end, God did enourage us too!
    He never fail.

    See Chuan, Cerina & Jonathan

Hi Danny, first of all, thanks for your effort to keep this blog alive – I know it must be tough work, but thanks for your perserverance – pls continue to keep reminding us, OK?

Next, thanks for sharing your experience… it was really encouraging for me to know that you have such encouraging experiences in CP. And I’m also encouraged by your going the EXTRA MILE to pick up your resident for the event on 29/9 – God bless you & Annie!!! You have set a fine example for the rest of us!

Lee Pheng & I also had good experiences this round – we had a resident who asked us in even though this is the first time we knock on his door! Initially we declined coz we wanted to make sure we had time to cover all our units, but eventually we went in and had a good chat with him. He seems very opened to coming for our activities. I told myself that I must contact him again to get him to come for some of our activities… after reading your sharing, I feel all the more that I must do that!

We also met another resident, a back-slidden Christian who had a very bad experience in his previous church many years back. He seemed very opened to try attending church again – at LSBC … he said he will visit us next month when he doesn’t have to work on Sundays anymore. Before we left, I prayed for him and I think he appreciated it…

Of course we encountered some other units that weren’t so welcoming, BUT the few that welcomed us MADE OUR DAY! That’s how we all can stay fresh and not get discouraged – just focus on the few (even if it is only one!) that are open to us, and do all we can to bring them into the Kingdom!

This is the 3rd round (1st round was calender, then umbrella/cookies) that we went visiting “our” residents. In our group, there is one particular unit which was very negative about our visit. Each time we came around, she would give us a very sour look and start to wave us away even before we can say anything. Each time we had to remind ourselves that we are doing God’s work.

One surprise that pop up during this visit was that, for another particular unit, we never get to see the owner. There was never ever a response to all our previous visits. When we came to this unit, we were unsure whether should we knock or not. I decided to go ahead and knock because our Lord said that He is here to heal the sick and the wounded.

Closed doors and negative responses should be the fuel to drive our passion for these block blessing and visits.

Surprise the door open and a young lady stand before us. We both were stumped and don’t know what to say. She looked like a Malay! Oh no, how? We look at each other…so we change our script and inform her that we are here to distribute mooncake to all Hougang resident as a community service.

Another surprise!!! She said that she is not a local. She is from Myanmar. Bless the Lord, she can speak English, yea…yea, high five :) At the end of our visit, she looked very happy and glad.

Honestly before this 2nd visit, I was like looking for a reason not to go because I was all tied up with ALOT of works. After the visitings, I felt sort of like re-charged and look forward to continue with my works.

Praise the Lord, He will never forsake or abandon us.
    Amen.

Here’s an update about the old Uncle who had kidney failure… Annie and I went back last night to visit him. We were hoping to pray for him, and also share with him about Jesus. We were praying that he would be open to accept the Lord as his personal saviour.

So, we went to Blk 503 after dinner:

Disappointment #1: He wasn’t open, and turned us down. We left without even a chance to pray for him in his flat. Wonder what happened? Sigh…

Disappointment #2: We met the old lady who accepted our invitation to Sat’s event at the void-deck as we were heading back to our car. She said she cannot come on Sat anymore. Her daughter kept telling her that she shouldn’t participate. Her granddaughter was visibly very disappointed. Annie and I were even more disappointed. Sigh…

Lesson: I am reminded that this is God’s work, not ours. We are merely God’s instruments and channels. So, we surrendered these disappointments to the Lord and ask Him to continue His work in this community. We are reminded that the devil’s stronghold in our community is still strong. The people are open to God at times, but the devil is quick to distract and respond too. We should seize the opportunities to bless and evangelise whenever we can. And we should continue to have faith and perservere. God’s victory is also sealed on the Cross; we just need to get others to realise that victory and claim it, and share the victory and joy.
